Training is at once the most essential and the most neglected aspect of technology implementation. This is certainly the case with Web sites. Apparently, most organizations can only budget for things that are easily quantifiable; that describes all hardware and some software but almost no training (despite efforts to quantify it, too). Unfortunately, actually putting a message out via your Web sites and social/business network requires people; equally as unfortunately, your people, despite growing up digital, may not be prepared to use your new toys correctly, let alone optimally. The cost of learning on the job, self-inflicted mistakes, and inadequate understanding of the best use of the tool, are more than likely to cost more than an initial training designed to forestall these missteps.
